Contacts
and Allies of Captain Z
(In order of most recent appearance.)
Jean-Marie
Rois et Reines du Rogné – Z
had heard for years of the handsome and honorable Musketeer Captain, but when
she witnessed his valiant actions during the Montaigne Revolution, he’d become
one of her heroes. He and his wife, the Queen Regent, escaped from Montaigne to
Wische where Z visited them to reveal her true identity and noble purpose. While
prudence suggested he not trust her, a Revolutionary, he sensed her true concern
for the people, a care which he also shared. Z has been working closely with the
Government in Exile since. They had sent Z to Pösen to talk General Montague
into assuming the throne, but now that someone claiming to be l’Empereur’s
illegitimate son is claiming succession, both he and the Queen Regent are
counting on her to shed light on any deception.
Lady Genovese Luciani – Genovese was sold into marriage at a young age and after her husband’s untimely death, she returned home and was placed under the care, or “thumb’, of her brother, Lord Cesar. She made her escape from his grasp the week Cesar was in Falisci “making time” with Lady Z. Nine months later, this runaway Vodacce Fate Witch came to work for Z as a Nanny under the false name “Jemma Lucibello”. It wasn’t discovered until later that by a strange twist of fate, Genovese was actually Zanetta’s Aunt! Lady Genovese is extremely protective of her young Niece and is determined to keep her out of the hands of her unscrupulous brother at all costs. “Jemma” is currently living at Z’s Carleon Estate.
Lady Zanetta Evalina Allais du Crieux (Born 7/7/71) – Zephyrne swears she never knew love before she first held her newborn daughter, Zanetta. The new addition gave the Lady Pirate Captain a new perspective on life. Though a legendary hero, Z now wants to make the world better not just for “the people”, but also for her child. Zanetta is even more “special” than the proud mother had originally thought. The daughter of Lord Cesar Luciani was born a full-blooded and exceptionally powerful Fate Witch, a power previously known to pass exclusively from mother to daughter! This is a fact that could severely complicate many lives should it be discovered and Z, for one, is determined to keep the secret.
Alistair Brisbane – This would be none other than the outstanding Avalonian actor that fooled every Montaigne citizen who laid eyes on him, even Father Jean-Marc Navarre. Hired by Captain Z for his acting ability and glamour, Mr. Brisbane played the part of Captain for Z's newest ship, the Wind Dancer, when on rescue missions into Montaigne. At the time any relationship between he, Captain Z, and the Scarlet Pendulum had been strictly hush-hush, but now that his part in the organization has been revealed Alistair’s acting career has boomed! He's extremely popular in Carleon, and possibly the busiest actor in Avalon these days.
Sir
Jeremiah Berek - The
infamous and legendary Captain of The Sea Dogs was very amused by Capt. Z's
exploits - and even sailed with her on several occasions. While he had become a
close partner in the Scarlet Pendulum, Berek has his hands full now that
Montaigne has declared war on the Sea Dogs for their involvement with the
organization. He is presently also keeping the heretical "Franzini
Notebooks" hidden for her until they meet again. He will no doubt find it
funny that little Zanetta was born on a crate of Berek Stout Ale in the Powder
Keg bar in Carleon.
General
Montague du Montaigne – This
legendary commoner-turned-army general, married into the royal family through
l’Empereur’s youngest girl, Dominique, was loved by all of Montaigne, so
loved that Leon, in fear, declared war on the frozen nation of Ussura & sent
him there to die. Z trekked through the wilderness to give him a letter from his
wife concerning the Monarch’s treachery. On that news, he turned his army
around and made for Montaigne, but while passing through Eisen his already
weakened forces were defeated by Eisenfürst Fauner Pösen, who now holds him
captive there. While the Republic has continued l'Empereur's lie that Montague
is dead, the Queen Regent in Wische settled on a sum with Pösen for his release
and sent Z as an Ambassador to meet with him. Lady Z spent the better part of
two days in her hero’s company, and during that time she managed to convince
him to take the throne of Montaigne… on his terms. She has declared her
absolute loyalty to him as her King.
Eisenfürst Fauner Pösen – Back when Captain Z was a fledgling hero, she repelled
Pösen’s forces in the Battle of Freiburg, something very few people can
claim. Afterwards, for her inconvenience, Z swore to “punch Pösen in the
nose” if they ever met, but now that she has been sent to Insel as a Royal
Ambassador, she has been her best behavior. Their first meeting yielded no
emotional responses whatsoever from the stoic, warrior Eisenfürst, just a
curious, serious glance. Z isn’t sure where they stand with each other, but is
beginning to see that Montaigne needs Pösen’s soldiers. If only she could
convince her somehow…
Wilma
Probst – Z and this stoic Chief
Administrator of the City of Freiburg have grown closer over the years. From the
day the rag-tag teen-age Pirate Captain blew into town and rid it of the Mad
Wolves Gang, Wilma showed appreciation for the young lady, but when Z repelled
an invasion force during the Battle of Freiburg she knighted her for her
efforts. These days, the two look forward to Z’s rare visits and Z has made it
apparent that she very much respects Wilma, and looks to as an adopted mother.
Eisenfürst
Logan Seiger
- Son
of Eisenfürst Eric Seiger and formerly the scribe to Eisenfürst Nikolas Tragüe,
Captain Z aided Logan in claiming the title of Eisenfürst after Tragüe’s
death. There had been a serious romance between he and Z and he had planned to
propose marriage, but that hope came to an end with his new responsibility. He
made it clear that when she chooses to retire his offer stands, but Z was
secretly relieved by the break up. She still considers him a good friend and
makes a point to visit him when she’s in town. While she could tell that
he was uncomfortable with her pregnancy, he has lived up to his philosophy of
“no questions” and while the two spoke at length, the issue never arose. She
was very excited to discover that Logan has recently begun work on a sequel to
Nikolas Tragüe’s book.
Jaret
Larz – This very charming,
personable Vendel Ambassador to the Montaigne government in exile talked Z into
inviting him for dinner where they discussed her fleet’s recent attacks on
Vendel vessels. He offered an exchange of the assistance that Villanova has been
providing her for a continued “friendship” with Vendel. Pragmatic to the
last, the Vendel didn’t want to make an enemy of her, as powerful and
influential as she is. Z agreed to the arrangement and called off her ships, but
in order to keep her word to Villanova as well, she is now secretly funding and
supplying the Vesten Raiders, who make a lifestyle of preying on their enemies,
the Vendel.
Eisenfürst
Reinhardt Von Wische – Eisenfürst
Von Wische had been suffering from a madness of which no one thought he would
recover. However, when Z simultaneously aided in his recovery and prevented a
coup attempt in his “absence”, he expressed his gratitude by knighting her.
He has taken control of his region once again and rules as a benevolent
respected and loved leader. Whenever Z visits, he makes a point to engage her in
informal meetings that he, “Cornelia”, and Z have all come to enjoy. At the
moment, his region is blossoming under the care of the Government in Exile, and
while Montaigne threatens war from just across his borders, he is of the mind
that they won’t go through with it.
Gizella
Inselhoffer – Desperate
for help, the then Regent sent criers out to request aid for Siesburg and Z
answered the call. While she had sought more martial assistance, she appreciates
Z’s efforts in disproving her brother’s attempt to frame her for the theft
of the region’s treasury, preventing his coup attempt and assistance in
bringing the Eisenfürst back to his senses. Gizella is now acting as Von
Wische’s deceased wife, Cornelia, as this belief keeps him sane, but she hopes
to someday make him fall in love with her.
Sylvain
Allais du Crieux – When
Z met with Sylvain, her younger brother and closest family member, for the first
time since leaving Montaigne over 6 years ago, he was glad to see her, but
shocked and confused by her inciting of the Revolution and death of his family. The meeting did
not go well. Time has brought the two closer together again and nowadays they
both avoid the topic as much as possible. Now 17, Sylvain lives at her Freiburg
estate and is attending the college there, it also seems that, in Z’s absence,
a little romance has been developing between he and:
Christina Bianco – At Z’s very
first ball in Freiburg, Dame Probst introduced Christina as a young Vodacce
artist looking for a patron. Z took her home that evening and she has since
remained in the Captain’s employ. While she has alluded to a husband and
secret past, she never has shared the full story of how she came to Freiburg.
Christina currently resides at the Drachenheim estate.
Sebastian Valroux de Martisse - Z recognized this noble's name at once as it was being read from the guillotine platform in the capitol of the Martisse province of Montaigne. Once she rescued him, the rumors were confirmed; Lord Sebastian had a vast network of spies, informants and smugglers which he later utilized to the benefit the Scarlet Pendulum. He is currently staying at Z's Carleon estate until he can manage to recover his riches seized or frozen by the Revolutionary government.
Antionette
Fletcher – Widow of Scarlet Pendulum co-founder
Adrian Fletcher, Antionette is unshakably dedicated to the cause, as is the
entire staff of Le Cercle de la Chanson, “the” popular night spot for the
Revolutionary Government’s Elite. While Z & crew have pulled out of
Montaigne due to the impending war, she has continued to aid the effort
internally by smuggling out information & documentation.
Father
Jean-Marc Navarre – Captain Z rescued this
condemned humanitarian Vatacine Priest from his impending execution, with the
assistance of her Porté mage Topsman, Dupré. Both Navarre and the nation were
thankful. Now that both nobility and sorcery are punishable by death, Z needed
to contact this Council of Eight member to see if he truly had been corrupted.
When back in Charouse, she arranged a meeting with him in which she learned that
the Father was still as caring as he was cowardly. While he promised not to turn
her in, he also refused to help... for fear of losing his head.
Queen
Elaine of Avalon – After
Captain Z, along with Privateer Molly Makepeace, donated the legendary Golden
Head of Korlak-ur-Nagath to the Crown, the Queen showed her gratitude by
offering her an enormous sum of money and granting her Rights of Salvage in the
waters around Avalon. Now that Montaigne is threatening war for the Sea Dogs'
involvement with, and her harboring of, "known enemies of Montaigne"
(namely, Z), Queen Elaine has stood firm, even sending away their Ambassador. Z has
always respected the Monarch, but her recent actions have won the Lady Captain's
loyalty.
Doña
Cherie du Montaigne de Aldana - Doña Cherie, daughter of the late l'Empereur du
Montaigne, had already been watching and admiring from afar Z's work with the
Scarlet Pendulum. However, after hearing of what Z had gone through to see her,
she was more determined than ever to assist. The meeting was cut short when
Cardinal Verdugo came calling, demanding she hand over "the heretic".
While he waited outside for Z to come out so he could arrest her, she and the Doña
switched clothes and Z took her carriage to safety. There is no doubt, she has a
strong ally in Doña Cherie.
Don
Andres Bejarano de Aldana - Z is by far no master of disguise, which
explains the ease by which Don Aldana recognized her as she made her way through
the streets of San Cristobel. A kindly and understanding man, he took her
directly to his estate, fed her, let her rest, and introduced her to his Aunt
(the Doña Cherie). When Verdugo burst through his doors, he stood up to him,
insisting that he could not arrest her on his property. All of his assistance,
and his obvious sense of justice, earned him the unshakable respect and
admiration of Captain Z.
"El
Vago" - Dressed as an Inquisitor and trying to find her way out of the
Inquisition's dungeons, Z found this legendary and beloved hero of Castille
rummaging through Cardinal Verdugo's office. When he held her at sword point,
she revealed her identity and the mutual respect became instantly apparent. He
assisted twice in her escape from the Inquisition, and left her life as quickly
as he'd entered it. No doubt they will meet again, now that Z has determined her
next personal mission: the downfall of the Inquisition.
Lady
Carla Lucini de la Villanova – The cousin of
Prince Giovanni Villanova, Lady Carla had been imprisoned in a gilded cage of
his making, forced to alter the strands of fate on his behalf. When Z aided in
her escape from Vodacce, she showed her appreciation by tugging some of Z’s
fate strands in her favor. Dressed as a commoner, and under the name “Maria
Bianco”, she sailed on The Scarlet Lady to Avalon where she booked
passage to a place where not even Villanova can find her.
Prince
Giovanni Villanova –
Lady
Z had merited an invite to Villanova’s ball and a meeting with the Prince,
which went favorably well. She should have left well enough alone. At the end of
the night Z’s “Bandit” was brought before him for stealing and Villanova
ordered him taken to the dungeon. Without thinking, she immediately contradicted
him, instantly earning a vitriolic hiss. She figures the only reason he has let
her live is due to her promise to disrupt Vendel trade in exchange for his
allowing her to pass through his blockade into Montaigne unsearched. No doubt,
the Prince is ecstatic that Montaigne has declared war on, and cut off all talks and trade with
Vendel.
Mysterious
Courtesan – Z never did get the name of the
lovely Courtesan who asked her assistance in rescuing Lady Carla Lucini de la
Villanova from Dionna, but she has undoubtedly earned her respect and gratitude,
so much so that she arranged to give Z’s “Bandit” as much opportunity as
possible to escape from Villanova’s guards. A “friend” of Freiburg’s
Wilma Probst, this lady instantly earned Z’s respect.
"The Bandit"
- This handsome and
seductive stranger robbed Z of every cent she owned in Puerto del Sur, but for
years she wished to see him again. Her wish was granted for a fleeting moment at
Giovanni Villanova’s masquerade ball where he swept her up into a dance,
leaving absolutely no doubt that their lust for each other was stronger than
ever. She hoped for another passionate evening, but when next she saw him he was
being hauled off to Villanova’s dungeons. Lady Carla later told her that she had
bound their fate strands together, insuring that the two would meet again. Until
then, Z keeps the rose he gave her pressed in a book beneath her bed.
Adrien
McAlvie – When Z entered
Villanova’s ballroom, this spectacled Avalonian Explorer looked at her as if
Theus himself had arrived. So in awe of her he was, that in trying to make a
good impression, he thoroughly frustrated her with his clumsiness and incoherent
stammering. While no doubt an ally, this is one that Z could stand to never see
again.
Lady Jamais Sices du Sices – Capt. Z had first heard of the Lady Sices du Sices from mutual friend Eisenfürst Nikolas Tragüe, but the first time she saw her she was being arrested by the Montaigne Republic for sorcery. They met the evening before the execution, and the following morning Z and fellow conspirators rescued her from the guillotine. The two immediately become close friends. Lady Jamais now resides in the Falisci province of Vodacce, from where she aided the Scarlet Pendulum until their recent disbanding.
Prince
Donello Falisci - The
Vodacce Merchant Prince known for making the greatest wines in all of Théah had
long been in love with Lady Jamais and was so thankful when Z rescued her from
death in Montaigne. Upon Z's visit to Medico, he immediately declared her a
friend, further giving her an "initial" donation for the Scarlet
Pendulum, the amount of which left her utterly speechless.
Willem
Karls -
A
member of the secret society known as The Rilasciare, Willem had been serving as
pilot of The Scarlet Lady and using the opportunity to visit some of his
"friends" in many ports around Théah. Z has worked with him and other
members of the society to further their common agendas and they have learned to
trust each other. Unfortunately, Z and Willem have agreed to part ways, but on
good terms. Z knew that members of The Rilasciare hold places of power in the
Republic of Montaigne, where she is again wanted, so they both preferred not to
test his loyalties either way.
Vassya
Wilhelm
- Head
of the Freiburg City Guard, Vassya always seemed to get along better with Erik
Pfannstiehl than Z, but his respect for her is quite apparent. After the Battle
of Freiburg, in which Z repelled Eisenfürst Fauner Pösen's invasion force, he
made her and all the officers of her ship honorary members of the Freiburg City
Guard.
Reginald
Carlson
- Avalon
Scholar and member of The Explorer's Society, Mr. Carlson is a fair sailor and
topsman as well as an expert on the Syrneth and their artifacts. He has
traveled with Z to several remote locations seeking Syrneth artifacts. Last Z
knew, the Society had assigned him to a post at a museum in Innismore.
The
Kire – A very large and severe Eisen
man who was freed from the Montaigne Prison on Footprint Island by Z when she
broke Aaron Blackstone out. He always refers to himself in the third person.
While large and intimidating, he showed genuine gratitude for Z's efforts. Now
the Captain of his own pirate ship, and made famous for having killed
l’Empereur du Montaigne, he was last seen in the Midnight Archipelago just
after the Revolution. Z has invited both he and Jacques to her estates. Perhaps
they will meet again...
Jacques
Renault
- A
skilled
Montaigne Swordsman companion of The Kire, Jacques always refers to the Eisen
hulk as his "little brother". Jacques is more personable than his
large friend and also appreciated his rescue from the hands of the Montaigne on
Footprint Island. Jacques was also with The Kire on his ship, presumably in the
position of First Mate.
Molly
Makepeace
– Captain
of The Queen’s Rascal, she and Captain Z became close friends while on the
race for the Golden Head of Korlak-ur-Nagath. They teamed up in order to
retrieve the head and have since worked together to steal l'Empereur's tax money
at the historic event that would become called “Valoix’s Folly”. The two
both admit that they would enjoy sailing together again, but for now Molly
continues to sail with the Sea Dogs and is usually posted in the Midnight
Archipelago.
Reiner
Thorsen
– When
Captain Z saved the life of this former Vendel Ambassador to Avalon he
considered himself eternally in her debt. Now the Financial Advisor to the
Vendel Chair, he only gets to see her when she is in Kirk, which isn’t often
these days. Both enjoy each other’s company and, while Z has a schoolgirl
crush on this late-middle aged gentleman, she has determined not to act on her
lustful instincts, recognizing that he’s a much more valuable as an ally.
Dominique
du Montaigne
- The
youngest of l’Empereur nine daughters, Dominique, with the help of her
handmaid, a Fate Witch named Anna, tracked down Z and her men while they were
hiding from Musketeers in the labyrinthine sewers beneath Charouse. She promised
to help them escape Charouse and provide them with a hefty sum of money if they
would bring a letter to her husband, the General Montague, in Ussura... a letter
that l'Empereur would not want him to read! After the stillborn death of her
son, her father had evicted her from the Chateau de Soliel. She has not been
heard from since.
Eisenfürst
Stefan Heilgrund - The young Eisenfürst is
obsessed with Syrneth artifacts for some reason... and had funded an expedition
by The Scarlet Lady to recover both Syrneth compasses and any information
regarding them and their possible powers. No doubt, once he received the news of
the mission’s failure from Reginald Carlson, his opinion of her is not what it
once was. He is presumed to still be dwelling in his castle at Heilgrundstaht.
"The
Vendel"
- Name unknown, this wealthy and tantalizing gentleman seemed to know much more
about Captain Z du Paix than he let on when he conscripted her to bring Syrneth
artifacts back from the wreckage of a Montaigne ship. After several disasters
along the way, the relationship was nearly strained until he gave her the deed
to the Drachenheim Estate in Freiburg as a way of "mending hard
feelings" in hopes that she might consider working for him again. Z left
him in Puerto del Sur, where he presumably still resides.
Former Friends and Associates
Donetello
Sylvestri Luciani – Z only met Senior Lucani
briefly at Prince Villanova’s masquerade ball, but the moment was potent. He
was sweating profusely and staggering as if poisoned. Just before falling he
gave Z a small box, telling her to “keep it away from him”. Who “him” is
remains a mystery, but she doesn’t doubt that another Luciani will come to
retrieve it from her. Z presumes Donetello dead, but stranger things have
happened…
Adrian
Fletcher (DECEASED) – A glamour mage and owner
of the popular Cercle de la Chanson
theatre and restaurant in Montaigne, Mr. Fletcher provided excellent food and
pro-Revolutionary entertainment for the upper class of the Republic. M. du
Gloyure had taken Z there several times, but the day Statement 15 was set into
law, she went alone. When soldiers busted in to arrest Lady Jamais Sices du
Sices, he stopped Z from taking direct action and that evening they founded the
Scarlet Pendulum. Fletcher was killed during an attempted rescue, but his wife
and trusted companions still aid her in their plight.
Eisenfürst
Nikolas Tragüe (DECEASED) - The
moody, alcoholic, Atheistic, Nihilistic "ruler" of Freiburg, Tragüe
formed Freiburg as a way to peer into the true nature of man, by allowing the
city to govern itself with near anarchy and one motto: "No Questions".
Tragüe has had several conversations with Z where he challenged her idealism.
Her responses seem to have triggered some additional thought in the
philosophical Eisenfürst. Z counted him as one of her best friends and his
suicide was very difficult for her.
